Hello all,
I am new here but have been keep fish and specifically reef fish for the past 10 years. Recently I had my Rose bubble tip anemone split and now the two are surviving but neither is near the same sie as the original and it has been over 6 months now. Could they be attacking each other chemically? I have used carbon with an extra filter but no change. They live and rise up everyday but are still small and the tentacles seem shrunk a bit. Should one be removed to another tank? Thanks!

No they are fine together. I suspect another reason for their slow development. How long had you had it before it split and how large was it right before the split? Normally they recover to the point of eating within about 2 weeks, but can take them months to get back to how they were.

I had him about the same amount of time 6 months before he split. I don't really feed then the Tomato Clowns I have grab food i give them and put it on the anemone though. Its kinda cool. I was told if they have sufficient light they don't need to be fed. I have a set of Evergrow LED lights on the tank. Getting lots of light. Other factors, some hammer coral, polyps, Montipora in the tank, spiny sea urchin, sun coral tahts about it. Alkalinity, 10.2 dkh, Calcium, 460 ppm, PH, 8.1, Magnesium, 1260, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, iodine (which is difficult to check) seems normal), i have a kit for it but the color variations on the chart are so close together hard to tell. hermit crabs, snails. Anything else that would be important I have forgotten? Thanks!

Welcome to R2R

I have two that split and they are next to each other. I will be rehoming them for the reason they and stinging everything around them.

Welcome to R2R. Nems are weird!

Hi all and thanks fo the reply. Well I left them in there because I have male and female tomato clowns but not sure my reasoning there, one for each maybe but that's not really how it works is it. The female finds one, the male follows. Sometimes I think I am a little to sentimental when it comes to my tank. I feed them crab and sometimes a mixture of the fish food I make as fish foods can be expensive and I find food like mysis and brine shrimp not nutritious enough for them. My fish food consists of Oysters, saltwater marine pellets, dried seaweed, bionautic marine flakes and silversides all put into the blender and mixed to a mush. I then take this and pour into a freezer bag and lay flat in the freezer to get a flat frozen square food. This lasts about 3 weeks. The Oysters I buy at T&T as they have the best seafood in the city and the cheapest at 7 bucks for 6 large oysters to make this mixture. I will then cut a piece of and thaw and feed to the fish as well the anemones get some but I don't directly feed them so maybe I should start. Its just I get attacked by my tomato clown female if I go anywhere near them. I also have a Mandarin Goby who eats of course Copepods and Arthropods but I will supplement fish eggs for them however am sparing with these as they are 46 bucks a bag so I go easy on them. Here are some pics of my tank and the foods I supply.

You can see in the pic my Montipora on the top growing like cray. This 6 months ago was the size of a quarter, a small frag and is now the size of a ping pong racket.

My fish go mad over this food by the way. I took a while to figure out what they really like but oysters they love. I will also once in a while put a mussel in there. You can see my Powder Blue in the pic, she is voracious. I feed her dried seaweed as well and stick some in at night when she sleeps for my sea urchin.

I have some coralline algae in the tank yes but do have real problem getting it to grow. It is a difficult problem to figure out as the parameters are correct in the tank, the lighting is not to bright but bright enough as I have sun coral which does not like really bright white light I am told but more in the blue spectrum which I have confirmed, it opens up more under less white light. But of course this is another entirely different thread haha.

Also here is a pic of my tank which houses my Chainlink Moray Eel and another picture of the area where I am building my new 300 Gallon tank. This large tank is being taken down and an L shape aqaurium with drop offs is being made. The tank will go from the end of the wall to the corner and then go around the corner where the bookcase is. I am still deciding whether to use Starfire glass or Acrylic for this tank as I have read that any tank over 250-300 gallons should never be made with glass but acrylic which I am still not certain about.

Feeding seems like a faf to me. I use a hollow tube to direct the pellets into the tentacles to promote the feeding response and not get bitten by my clown fish. It's the male in my case that tends to be more aggressive.
