I got back from vacation and I couldn't find one of my RBTAs in my prop tank. I thought it was hiding behind the rocks so I left if for a few days. Yesterday I got fed up and pulled the rocks out to find it and it wasn't in the tank. I found it in the sump! I had to have traveled out of the water, over the overflow, into the back compartment, into the standpipe, down the drain, into the sump, climbed up the side and was hanging at the water line.

This is where it had been.

This is how I found it.

I can't tell from the pic whether its dead or not, but if it is you need to remove it from your tank immediately :(. I feel like whenever I go on vacation something bad happens in my tank lol.

It's alive, or at least it was when I moved it back. It was attached to the side of the sump. I scraped it off and put it back in the top. I haven't been home to check on it today but it looked ok last night.

WoW that is a crazy story, I would have never thought that it would climb into the overflow. Then go down the drain into the sump. Just Crazy, keep us posted on it recovery

It's fine! Right back in the same spot as before it took off. I'm not so surprised it moved but it had to climb out of the water some to get over the overflow.

WOW! That is CRAZY!!! Thank you for posting it. I have had 1 commit suicide and others just go under a rock and die. Yours is VERY adventureous!!!

that's 1 of the craziest story I have ever heard glad it is doing well

Glad everything is ok with your RBTA.

Similar story

I have a purple LTA that has decided that it no longer liked the place it was in and has started it journey around the tank. It has climbed up the back wall of the tank and is not right at the waters edge. I have a cover over the overflow so I am not worried about it. Just wish it would make up its mind soon as I want to reaquascape the tank.

I had one that took that trip and went further. He got blown into the crate and almost went through. Looked like he was half way through a meat grinder!
If one of ours that is so healthy makes it through that, than equally sad is wondering what the ones that we buy that are so weak and die, have gone through?

Wow my GBTA climbed up my tank and I caught it going over the side. I think it was the change in light that did it for me.
