Keep him in the bag. Go to LFS and get a dozen or two more of same species. Then things will be proper for your setup.

Might have missed this while following your thread - what are the bulkheads that you installed in the bottom of your sump for? Is it for draining the sump? Super curious. The whole room looks fantastic!

The bulkhead in the sock area will feed the auto water change pump and the external skimmer. The bulkhead on the return side will feed two return pumps. This is being done to eliminate power cords going into the water.

I've had a powerhead fail and electrocute my entire tank. Not willing to risk that again. I'm sure it's extremely rare, but no thanks.

90% of the hard plumbing is done, less the return pump pipes (3/4" black from BRS gets here tomorrow) and the waste line.

I'm curious about the plumbing here - everyone is always saying how important unions are for maintenance/ease of replacement. Any particular reason you're opting out?

For a job this size, the bill is already pretty hefty, and unions are expensive. If I do need to take something apart, I'll install a union when I cut the pipe. So essentially, unions can easily be added later if needed.

Should also add, one of these (PVC pipe cutter) is your best friend for that scenario.

@Blutspitze asked a good question; but the plumbing here seems very accessible. The tighter-the-quarters, probably the more useful unions are to just twist and remove what you can’t cut.
