Rowaphos/chemipure blue placement

I’ve got a Fluval evo and want to add one of the above to help lower phosphate in my tank.

I’ve got filter floss, bio media/max aspect balls in a media basket in the first chamber. Heater in the second chamber and the return pump in the third chamber. Where would I add it?

Could I put the bag under the filter floss in the first chamber?

If you want to reduce phosphate you would need chemipure elite.

Chemipure blue does not have gfo. Blue I believe is carbon + resin for silicates

Yes it can go under the filter floss or anywhere water flows through it

Ah ok thanks. The description must have been wrong on the chemipure blue as it was on Amazon. I’ll get some of the elite stuff.

The blue contains a phosphate absorbing resin so it should reduce phosphates. According to the company, it’s pretty efficient at doing so though I suspect less efficient than GFO. It does not contain GFO like the elite. I use the blue in my nano tank.

It is a resin that is designed for other things but they claim it also can absorb phosphate.

RHF disagrees. And I agree with him
It’s a residual effect maybe preventing some phosphates but not binding existing ones very efficiently

Sounds like 6 tablespoons is not enough. The recommendation is based on the amount of PO4 in the water. In your situation you are probably dealing with PO4 desorbing from the sand and rocks which can be a large reserve. Increase the amount of phosphate and just keep going. Measuring the reactor...

Elite doesn’t contain the resin. It has gfo which is proven to absorb phosphate

Yes, the Chemipure blue claims about directly binding phosphate won’t apply in seawater.

Plop it in and go.
Some people swear by it.
Whether it works or not I can't say.
Rowaphos is much more effective at reducing phosphate IMO.
What I suggest to anyone with an AIO when they ask me is to take a small amount of rowa,tbls or so and mix it with GAC in a plastic cup.
Pour that into a nylon stocking and tie it off.
Put that in and monitor your levels.
The GAC will help the rowa stay in place.
Works every time.
Cheaper too.

The chemo pure elite arrived and it says it treats up to 95l but my tank is probably 45l. It was just one bag so I had to put the whole bag in. Will it deplete all phosphate/nitrates?.

I’m gonna test in a few days and see how it’s working and I guess take it out if it leeches too much from the tank.

That's not a concern. It won't directly bind ANY nitrate or phosphate. It will bind organics, but that is not going to excessively drop nitrate or phosphate.

Sorry, yes. I was going off the thread title that we were still talking about the Chemi Pure Blue, but the product that was obtained was chemipure elite, which will bind phosphate.

I’d monitor your phosphates closely to make sure you don’t bottom out given that you’ve likely dropped in more chemi pure than is recommended for your tank size

Yeah I’m gonna test in a couple of days and see where it is. It was 0.19ppm on Sunday which is when I do all the tests.

Since your values are a little elevated I would say this is ok and to just watch numbers but when this is depleted and needs to be replaced, buy the smaller one for 10g tanks

The smallest one I could find was 6.5oz which was supposed to be for smaller tanks but it was all in one bag.
