Rowaphos & trace elements

Thanks @blaxsun

I assumed it would act similarity as GFO, but didn’t see any rowaphos-specific information during some searches to confirm.

Hey reefers,

Does anyone know if rowaphos removes trace elements as other products such as carbon do?

Thank you

I think there’s little to no evidence that GAC binds an important amount of trace elements from seawater, although it does bind organics matter and that organic matter may have metals attached to it.

GFO like rowaphos brand will bind some materials, both organisms and trace metals, but I’ve not seen much data on how much.

Thanks @blaxsun

The Nyos Phosi-Ex works the same for all intents and purposes - I just like it better as the GFO pellets are much larger in size and you don't get that brown residue/powder populating your tank.

I don't believe activated carbon removes trace elements to any noticeable degree.

RowaPhos is GFO and it does remove some traces, but I add traces based on measurement, so that is taken into account.

Thank you, this is the secret I've been looking for.

Can it be used in a reactor (aquamaxx reactor?). Where do you get it? My LFS deosn't have this. Not on amazon either. Thanks.

Haha, no problem. Yes, I run Nyos Phosi-Ex in the Nyos Torq reactors. I leave about 3/4" room at the for a bit of tumble just at the top of the reactor (you want just a teeny bit to ensure good water flow and that it doesn't completely compact and block off flow). Aquarium Depot in Toronto stocks it (they currently have some onhand).
