I am having trouble reducing Phosphate which is at present 0.30 using a Hanna checker, I have tried using the stated amount of Rowaphos in my 120g system and also over that amount but the lowest I can get to in one week after is 0.17 and then it starts to increase again, my question is do I keep changing the Rowaphos as soon as it starts to rise, even after a couple of days of use until it starts to keep the phosphate down and gradually change it less often when I have reached my desired phosphate 0.03 and only change the Rowaphos as soon as it starts to rise above that goal?

Your rocks must be leaching it or you feed an awful amount of food. If rowaphos does not pull it down enough then try HC GFO from BRS.
How are you employing the rowaphos anyhow? It needs to be fluidized to work efficiently.

I am using a fluidizer reactor, I feed the fish once a day with frozen cubes and coral twice a week with reef roids and frozen cubes a mix of Mysis, Brine shrimp and Krill

Yes that’s exactly what you do, as soon as the phosphate levels increase change the rhowaphos and keep doing it.

I have mine in a deltec FR509 reactor and you will get to a point we’re it lasts longer and longer and then it’s easy. I change mine every 3-4 weeks and it keeps phosphate at around 0.03ppm, infact I rarely test anymore.

I was having a similar issue. I'm guessing part of it was my build with dry rock. I increased the amount used to get down to desired level then decreased the amount to maintain desired level (still tweaking it)

I have not tried yet but I have read a good idea is to measure the output of the reactor and try to dial flow to match your desired level

You may have a lot of phosphate bound up in rocks and sand so it make take larger amounts at first to get you down to where you want to be

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
