hey all, what are the benefits of rowaphos over GFO? is this more of a reaction media versus a daily maintenance for the tank?

ive been using GFO in a single BRS reactor just for the heck of it, phosphates around 0.05. no algae growing...but read some awesome things about rowaphos.

whats everyones opinion on the stuff?

In my experience its really good gfo media.
It can extract necesssary minerals as well when you overused cause coral to shock. Cost wise Its big expansive.

IMO, Rowaphos seems to work more consistently and effectively than all other GFO products I have used. This is also the only GFO that I have ever purchased that arrives damp and insists the product not be rinsed.

I’ve used rhowaphos for over 2 years and adding a GFO in my case rhowaphos is the best single thing I ever did with my tank. I don’t have algae or any other issues and infact rarely test for phosphate anymore. I try to keep it registering very low 0-0.03 on Hanna.

I just change the rhowaphos every 3-4 weeks and that’s it.

You need to rinse it to get rid of the fines, but I just add 5 litres of extra water to the system, change the rhowaphos in the reactor (FR509 deltec) and then run 5 litres of water through the reactor and out into a bucket. Takes just a few minutes

I buy the 5kg buckets as it’s much cheaper in that volume if you intend to keep using it.
