I use the BRS Reactos too.. ROX is really powerful stuff so I use it only when I want to polish my water. Other than that, I let my skimmer carry the load...

I ran rox a couple years ago, full strength, in a reactor. Results were soso. Some things didn't mind it but some did. Now, if I ever try to put it in a reactor, stuff starts dying. Every time. I won't use it in a reactor anymore. Just about 1/2-1/4 strength in a media bag in the sump that's it. The videos on brs showing how effective it is when run in a reactor are accurate, but i think that it speaks more on how dangerous it can be if run aggressively. The opposite of their intended message. They're trying to say "look how great it is, it works so fast and so well" but in practice, when dealing with corals, not with organic molecule inks and dyes, live sessile inverts don't like organics stripped that fast and extreme.

Wow, I don't think using Rox 0.8 should be a problem as I always have and change it out every 2-3 weeks. I don't do frequent water changes only enough to clean out detritus from bare bottom display once in awhile. I have found, just new or sudden changes in water clarity, impurities, water changes or other additives can cause problems with SPS. I look for changes in corals, what film is on the glass to let me know when it is time to change carbon. I do run the effluent from my carbon reactor into a sock and follow the amount from BRS web site.

Yea, more than likely what is making the corals upset is the sudden increase in par from clearer water....not the clean water itself.

I thought so too. And I know a shock is likely what hurts stuff. But every time I seem to use it the tank reacts negatively now. Even when used in a media bag

Besides the polyps closing up on your corals what other negative effects do you get. I can do nothing and some of my coral polyps will close for a day or two maybe even three days. Are you doing anything

No it's been a while since I've used it honestly. Just sharing my experience. Stn on acropora and montipora, zoas shrinking and dying rapidly. Upon removing it, after a few days it typically stops. Though it's happened where once something gets on the death road it doesn't recover

How new was the tank and the SPS. Many things can cause that, pest, sudden change in alk, a fast temperature change. Many of these things don't show until a week or two after it happened. Even vinegar dosing by starting with too big a dose to fast. Many tanks have different problems for many reasons. New corals may do well from the beginning and others may do well for a week or two and then go down hill, sometimes they recover. It depends on the stress's they had before you got them and then after.

I follow @melev advice and put it on for 3-4 days once per month. It clears up my water well and I have seen no ill effects. I used to run it constantly and change it out weekly. All of my corals began to pale, but my numbers looked perfect. Now I have imperfect numbers and vibrant and growing corals. But from now on, during the 3-4 days I'm using it, I will pack my reactor with filter floss. Great idea!

Tank a couple years old, containing rock from my previous tank which was 8 years old lol. It's by no means a young tank. I've always been good about alk consistency. At the time just dosing 2 part with dosers running every 30 minutes. Currently running calcium reactor. Don't know of a whole lot of pests that will affect many different family and genus of corals at once

I love BRS ROX carbon. I use it in a BRS dual reactor and rinse it clear before use , make sure that it doesn't tumble and it works awesome! I can not understand the problems here that are "linked" to ROX. If used correctly I see no problems with the carbon.

I have been using the Rox both AquaMax and BRS my zoas, do just fine actually all my LPS and SPS do fine with it running in a reactor full time. I find other additives can make bigger changes in reactions by the corals good and bad. I had a digitata that I thought I killed, stn from the base up, but then seen my first small flat worm added a couple wrasses, a melanurus and a canary, and it is recovering and has better color than when I first put it into tank. Never seen a flatworm before was so small toward back of tank not even sure that was what it was. Have not seen one since and all corals are doing fine.

Has anyone else noticed that when they run Carbon that they have corals (zoa's, clove polyps) that will close up after you put fresh carbon in? I ran a month without carbon and it seemed like I had the best growth with everything out and then I change my carbon and stuff goes into hiding :)

I started running it again as I started seeing my rocks get a bit green and had some GHA pop up. My Nitrates around around 5ppm, and phostphate is .02ppm (per hanna ULRS, and my api test reads zero).
you could be using too much, the dosing size is really small
