Just writing this to relay my experience using rox intermittently for a while now. I only use a tiny bit of carbon for my system that is about 250 gallons of water. Like not even a full cup. And I only use it in my sump in a mesh bag leaving it in for no more than a few days. Learning by watching my tank daily, I can tell you that it does indeed strip something out of the water that corals crave.

I have no scientific backing to this it is simply an observation. PE is reduced and corals just seem to pale a tad. I only do this once in a while to clear up the water if I feel it is somewhat cloudy. I am aware that many run carbon 24 7 and their systems flourish. Also, of course, like anything in the hobby, it could just be system dependent.

I just felt like sharing some words of caution to the new reefer out there about my experience. If one would want to run carbon for any number of reasons, I suggest starting very small and gradually increasing the amount. And I have never had a bad experience not using a reactor for it.
Two pennies
Happy reefing!

Good advice that is applicable across all of the hobby. Start slow and monitor your reactions. The tank will tell you if it likes it.
But there is also a curve where they don’t like it to start but after acclimating it is beneficial. Such as an acclimation period for coral with new lights.
