I would have thought these two fish couldn't go together but my local fish store has them both in the same tank. Dottyback looked mature while the Angel was still smallish.

Can these two go together or is it likely okay due to the large volume of water in the entire system?

dotty backs tend to be nasty, but there is no reason it would be particularly incompatible with a bicolor angel. Maybe someone was saying the color pattern is too similar or something but thats a little silly with these fish. They live in different parts of the water column, and wouldn't directly compete for food, nor would one eat the other.

Honestly you should be fine I don’t forsee any issues. Dottybacks can get territorial, so if anything add him as one of the last fish in the tank.

I have a dotty back, was thinking of getting rid of her in lieu of something else

Can you add fish like Chromis where a Dotty is or will she just bully anything new

they “should” be fine, dottybacks tend to stay within the rock work, and will get aggressive towards anything that enters their “territory”

Haha my girl's territory seems to be the entire tank
