Royal gramma has hid since adding it yesterday

Hi all.. I added a few new fish yesterday and a royal gramma was one of them. It found a really nice hide-ee-hole and has been in there since.. it’s poked out a few times, swam into the middle of the tank, then darted back.. I am over-feeding a bit to try and get it some food... I think I can target feed that spot.. will try tomorrow. I think I saw it eat one or two bits of food.. how long can it go without eating??

I rarely see mine. I’ve had him at least 15 years. He will come out for flake or frozen foods but not for pellets.

They'll hide for days some times, and like above maybe forever depending on how aggressive the tank mates are.

Don't worry, it will come out to eat when ready. They are often found in caves/enclosures in native habitat.

Thanks!! I seen it just hovering near the hole with all of the tank mates swimming by... fire shrimp walking by... no one is harassing it and it stays put while they’re around.. so good sign I guess. It’s fine if it hides a lot.. I just want it to eat and live.

As many have said it'll take a few days, weeks for the fish to get used to the tank. It'll hopefully start responding to your feeding and you'll then see it come out more. When you add the Royal did you have the lights dimmed? That sometimes will help with the acclimation process as well.

Don't worry, it will come out to eat when ready. They are often found in caves/enclosures in native habitat.

The spot is chosen is really cool.. multiple access points and still viewable. It can go deep and be completely hidden though.

Hey lights were off.. it’s staring to get more brave ... as I said before it’s cool if it hides a lot ... just want it to eat and live.

Mine hid for a week straight. No sitings. We thought it was maybe dead... But it eventually came out. A little more each day. Now he's out all the time.
I feed my tank Rods frozen foods and my Royal Gramma seems to seek out the little eggs and goes to town on them. He also eats TDO pellets that I feed my clowns. Very cool fish.

LOL... it just came out right after chatting with ya'll and finally got pics !! Thanks!! I love these little guys that find homes in the rocks.. I need more.. suggestions??

The Blenies i had ( bycolor and a tailspot) liked to hide in holes in the rocks, you'd see a rock with a fish head poking out of it.

Mine hides all the time especially if he/she sees me! I named him Popsicle.

Mine hid for at least a few weeks. She was scared of my 3-stripe damsel. But she ate. And got bigger. And now the 3-stripe is the one who'd better watch out.

My firefish, on the other hand, is afraid of it's own shadow.
