I purchased a royal Gramma from a lfs about a week and a half ago, upon releasing him in my tank he found a little cave and hid. He eventually came out but stayed near the cave and even ate on the first few days. The last few days he hasn't left the cave and I checked on him to make sure he was alive which it was but it is now missing from it's spot and I can't seem to find it anywhere in the rock and I even checked around the tank to make sure he didn't jump out even though I have a lid. Do u think he's still alive just still hiding/buried or maybe he died and was consumed by my few nasarius snails in a day.

Mine hides a lot... But does come out to eat... every once in a while he won't... but as time goes pin he will be out more and more. He needs to feel safe... so the longer it is in the system the more he will feel at home

Mine did the same thing. He would only come out to eat for the first 4 or 5 days. Then after that he would dart back in the hole if you went near the tank. I've had him for about 3-4 weeks now and he comes out and swims with everyone else when the lights are on.

I've had mine for 3 years and I forget I have him half the time since he hangs in one of his few homes and rarely comes out.

I got one for my 20g nano yesterday. He only comes out when I'm not near the tank. As soon as I get closer he swims back into his cave. Is this really normal behavior?
