So lately this past month my royal gramma has begun to become gradually much more reclusive until now I never see them at all and I don't really know if the fish is dead or not at this point. I'd used to see it very occasionally come out for food but now it doesn't even do that much anymore. This fish was also one of the first I added to the tank and it always did stick around a particular spot but it was out in the open often and coexisted with my firefish and melanurus wrasse. I think it started really hiding when I introduced my blue throat triggerfish which makes sense I suppose. The triggerfish is actually pretty laid back and my other two fish are perfectly fine with it. I'm just worried the gramma may have starved to death or something and I don't really know how to ascertain its status.

I had a fire fish go missing and was so busy with work it took me maybe two weeks to be like holy crap I owned a fire fish. I have about 12 hermits and a Halloween so my guess is didn’t make it and was devoured before sunrise. Probably similar situation.

I guess I'm just trying to see how long I should go before replacing it because if I introduce another one and the other one's still alive then that's gonna make territorial stuff happen.

I’d say 2-3 weeks. If a fish disappears that long it’s definitely dead.
