I saw a few days ago that my Royal Gramma had some damage to the tail fin. It doesn’t seem to be getting worse. Today I noticed some blotchyness in the purple coloration. There may also be some slight damage to one of the pectoral fins. It just looks like a light spot in the picture. I’m not seeing any aggression other than my Kole tang occasionally chasing her back to the cave. Is it possible I missed some fighting or should I be concerned about disease?

Thanks

Could be some sort of bacterial or fungal infection in the fin tissues, they are super thin and very susceptible to such. I would initially feed with vitamin enriched foods, such as LRS Reef Frenzy or Mysis soaked in Selcon or Selco Booster to help boost the fish's immune system. It doesn't look too bad yet so it may be able to over it if it has a little help from good food. If the damage persists, I would go ahead and QT the fish and begin treating with antibiotics/fungal cure.

I was recommended to use Seachem Focus and Kanaplex for possible bacteria infections with my royal gramma. If you can find the Focus, it will allow you to use the Kanaplex in your display tank but I had trouble getting some quickly so I QT'ed my royal gramma and treated the whole QT tank with Kanaplex.

Possible to get a photo with the white lights on? Could be a bacterial infection. The blotchiness has me thinking about flukes too, but it's hard to tell from the current photos...

Thanks. I have focus but not kanaplex or selcon. I’ll see what I can find locally. How did you go about catching your Royal Gramma for QT?

I can get a better photo after work today.

I had to take the aquascape apart to get him, you may be able to use the bottle trap method but mine avoided the trap like the plague.

Figured I should give a quick update. It was a false alarm. I discovered that the fish had picked a new cave to hide in. The only problem is that when in the cave, its tail sticks out the other side. Something must have thought it looked like a snack. The fin is healing well. Thanks for the replies.
