Hello, I just got my first saltwater fish 1 week ago. It's a royal gramma and it seemed to be doing fine the first day. The second day, though, it started hiding, though I saw it a couple times. But ever since then I haven't seen it. I've even rearranged the aquascape and there's no sign of him. I know that they like to hide at the start, but I'm afraid he may have been caught in my filter, but he is much larger than the filter strainer/mesh. I have a HOB filter and he's not in there, and I have a canister but that's hard to take apart and the canister likes to leak if sealed improperly. The water parameters are fine. Do royal grammas hold on tight to the rocks? Because I shook them and only sand came out. Any help is appreciated.

Yes they do I dont mess with the rocks unless I can account for every fish. You can trap fish in rocks.
I had a buddy who bought lr and ended up with a royal gramma. It eventually came out of the rocks.

I had a royal gramma that did the same thing. Didn’t show up for a while. If you don’t see him in the filters Id assume it is still in hiding. Do you have any other critters that may be bullying it?
wow... I didn't even know they could do that. Thanks! I've set all the rocks out and leaned them against the glass so that there is little chance or him being stuck between the rocks or sand.I've got some pictures you might find helpful... let me pull from my phone.
