Hello,

I had two Royal Grammas suddenly die on me yesterday morning and I cant figure out why. I also have two clownfish and two firefish that seem to be doing just fine.

Is there anything that Royal Grammas are sensitive to that the aforementioned fish arent?

I work two jobs and cant get to a fish store for extensive testing until tomorrow. I do know that the nitrate and nitrite is good.

Also, the PH is good as well. I recently did a 25 water change four days ago.

Clownfish can get aggressive sometimes.

I don't know about Royal gramma on royal gramma aggression ? possible

Sometimes fish just pass for no reason . old age . parasite . Think of it like people sometimes people just pass away randomly for no reason .

Hard to say for sure if the other fish are healthy in the tank . How do the others look? could be the start of brook or velvet ?

Just throwing out some theories to get the ball rolling on solving this for you

they have been more or less bullet proof in my tanks over the years... sorry to hear. I have never had more than one in a. tank at a time and wonder about stress - but you would have seen that behavior leading up to problems

Can be aggression as both types of fish can be but there would be obvious signs like nipping and fin damage
Both are susceptible to brooklynella which the fish would be lethargic, Lise interest in feeding and heavy breathing
Internal issues showing white poop
Water quality especially if you’re getting false test results
What test kits are you using?
Water temp and salinity?

We really can only speculate without some symptom to go on. Here is a post that gives some hints as to what info might be helpful in trying to figure out what happened to your gramma.

How big is the tank?
Grammas probably don’t like to share small spaces, and I’ve personally had a clown kill my royal gramma.
As stated, more information is needed for a proper diagnosis though.

Hello all..

Thanks for the responses...

The LFS stated there was nothing from their testing that would point out why the fish died. Im still in disbelief. My tank is 75 gallons and even though both fish showed aggression towards each other, they kind of separated from each other on both sides of the tank.

Also, my other fish and cleaner shrimp still seem to be doing okay.

Honestly, the only one clue is that "the fishes died yesterday", its completely impossible to offer a guess without knowing more about the tank, you havent answered a single question from above.
