I have had a royal sea urchin for around 6mo who he has been living with a huma and another sea pencil urchin. The relationships with all 3 have been great up until today. I did a 20% water change, but unfortunately while doing the water change, I had to hurry and failed to check my water salinity after completion. I know I know!!!. That was 2 days ago. Today while on my day off, I began to notice my Huma pecking at him and went into emergency mode. The royal was still moving but did notice some spines missing so I immediately placed him into the refugium. I then remembered that I needed to check the salinity. I failed on this bc everyone was still happy and figured my guesstimate based off my usual water changes was close. However I couldnt be more wrong. I usually keep my salinity at. 1026 even on my larger 90 gallon. I read the salinity was waaaaay over that, in fact to unsafe levels I would think. My royal urchins spines are still moving but he hasn't moved at all in the sump. I believe he is still alive but either barely or he is just super stressed. Is he a goner or do I need to just keep watch and see if he recovers?. I will not be placing him back in the huma tank due to what has happened and if he recovers he will be going into my 90gallon reef. tank. I do know they are very sensitive to water changes/salinity levels but I have never had this issue ever with an urchin. The huma and pencil urchin are still perfectly fine as if nothing has changed..
