I went to a coral show recently and a reputable high end acro dealer sold me a piece and said it was rr angry birds. I took his word for it, I put it front and center in my tank. This was about 3 weeks ago, it has been starting to encrust and has decent polyp extension. I'm starting to have my doubts that it is what he said it is. Should I say something to this person or wait it out until it grows a bit to see if it picks up some of the vibrant colors, or should I question him?

I would wait a little longer but then again will he even honor something he lied to you about if that’s the case? Are your water parameters matching his as well? Nutrient levels play a role in growth and color so let’s hope it’s what he sold you!!

From what I know parameters are somewhat similar, my latest test results as follows (alk = 9.5 cal=480 mag=1490 po4 =.055hanna nitrate=2ppm s.g=1.025) this is a established reef up and running for 2+ years. I dont have color issues with any other of my pieces right now.. I dont want to accuse him of straight up lying to me or blast him on the forums. I just have my doubts and asking for opinions, I spent good money on this and would be disappointed if I was mislead.

Its really hard to see it in that pic . Hope it is what you thought you were buying , but can't tell much from that pic.

I just got one today and it’s darker like that. It happens often w/ new acros as it adjusts... I hear many have a hard time getting the red in the polyps.

Looks similar enough to me, I see all these pictures on the internet and mine looks nothing like it and I got concerned.

Are you an experienced acro keeper? Acro’s can lose color from change in different lighting tank parameters temp you name it and can take months even a year to stabilize and start to bring back their color if your system can pull good color out of acros

+++100% I would worry more about keeping it alive and getting it growing at this point, color will come later and you wont be able to confirm for a while if ever. Many SPS keep their color immediately after fragging, then dull out only to come back some time later either in the original owners tank or a buyes...

I got one recently directly from RRU and it looks just like this one. Purplish/Blue base and the yellow is bright inside the top under blue LEDs. The polyps don’t have much color yet, but hoping that will develop later.

Have been keeping acros for 18 months,so I'm still learning. I have been getting deep colors out of my acros minus my home wrecker which has a very pastel look to it. I have been pretty successful with it, so I fragged all my colonies that I had to create space for more higher end pieces

same here. This Is likely cut from the same mother colony.
