Four months ago I added a RR Tropic Thunder Monti to my tank. Here's how it originally looked:

And here's how it looks today, with a lot of new growth encrusting the rocks:

Any idea why the original section changed from pink/orange to a dark purple? All the new growth appears to match how it looked when I got it. I wonder if the new growth will also darken to purple over time?

All corals can change color, growth pattern, and growth rate when they are introduced to new environments (lights, params, flow etc). It should even out over time but it might all be purple or go back to pink or who knows. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about or chase. It looks very happy. Just leave it alone and be excited for what’s coming, whatever that may be.

To be honest I’m not worried about it because it still looks healthy, is growing, and has good polyp extension. I’m just curious if others have seen theirs change color. I actually like seeing the contrasting colors.

Do you have much daylight spectrum? Need white to get the pinks and reds and stuff. Colors can change under mostly-blue lighting. If you do, then I have no idea.

I’m running two Radion XR30 Pro’s for 8 hours using the AB+ spectrum at 80%. This coral is at the bottom of my tank and gets about 200 PAR.

More white would probably change the color back. It looks good though like it is. Some of the best Radion tanks run at 100% on all channels for a good part of the day... this is one of many reasons why.
