So even after some bunk customer service, and a Leakey tank you still bought a new red sea tank? Ouch

He stated it was used in another thread he posted, regarding a leak.

I found this evening my RS-170 has a pinhole sized leak in the silicone. I patched it as you can see in the pic with Tunze Coral Gum. It stemmed the tide from a steady stream to a 1/10 ML trickle per minute. Hopefully this will buy me enough time to get some silicone in the a.m for a more permanent patch until I can get a new aquarium here. Not sure why it would leak here, there are no cracks but the silicone is dislodged.

I purchased this aquarium used, and it's been fine so far, and it's level I believe. I need some type of solution until I can source a new aquarium, don't need a stand or a cabinet, or anything else. Hopefully this patch will hold until the morning, I don't have another way of moving livestock etc.

If anyone has any suggestions, let me have them.

I missed it as well. Looking at the post where he put the email response from Red Sea, he mentioned "no warranty for used stuff"....

Guys, I wasn't bummed about the warranty, or the charge for the tank. Basically, they should have facilities from their retailers so I can just get a replacement. The only reason I have a new 250, is because Stone Aquatics in Denver just "happened" to have one. A tank leaking is pretty much the worst catastrophe you can have with keeping aquariums, outside of electrocution. The fact that I would have had to waited for over a week while my tank is dripping over the floor? That's the part that needs work. JMO

I know this is an old posting but wanted to let everybody know the experience I had with that exact same issue. My Red Sea reefer 525 Xl have been up for about 2 years. The front glass started to come apart from the side glass panal and was leaking all over my carpet. A HUGE LEAK. I was able to stop leak by applying pressure with a ratchet scrap.I contacted them and was told the tank is our of warranty and that it's normal to have silicone leaks and for me to keep my case confidential.



I think everyone should know the kind of quality that's being sold and the customer service received and it should not be covered up to sell more high price products. I was told to buy a new tank since the silicone damage is non-repairable. I will be staying clear of Red Sea reefers tanks and going with a waterbox for my replacement. Be careful they will leak and it's not normal.
