I recently got a used Red Sea 130d to play with. I am planning on starting a reef (I have a 210 Fowler/predator tank that would be cost prohibitive for coral). When I bought it, it was in a dim room and I didn't see how scratched the glass was. I tried to buff them out with cerium oxide, but the big ones remained. Hopefully when the water is in they won't be as noticeable. I had an acrylic tank that was much more scratched up empty than filled.
Is this soft glass, why is it so easy to scratch? Any tips on removing them?
Second, I bought a Steve's LED replacement. After replacing the PC, I noticed how glazed over the light cover was. I see you can get a replacement but after the panel and gasket it is around $50. Has anyone found a source for a glass one that won't glaze over from the UV? Has anybody buffed one out with acrylic polish? I have a lot of Novus polish. I just don't want to have to do it every 6 months.
