Hey reefers!! Got a question for ya. So I just set up a new rsr250 and I have a lot of sump noise in one area that is driving me nuts!!!! So my pumps and overflow are dead silent, but in the new reefer sump the flow comes in through a media cup and a filter sock, flows through a fuge section, and into the skimmer section. This is where the problem lies the skimmer section is neat bc it has a wall with an adjustable height so you can create a water level that is optimal for your skimmer. The problem is the water flows over the wall then has to flow down under another wall before the return pump section. It's supposed to be a bubble trap I believe and in the bubble trap there is a black sponge. I removed the sponge bc it will become a nutrient trap but now the cascading water sounds well like a cascading water fall.

Anyone have this issue and have a solution to water noise? Besides adding a filter floss or sponge

Thanks!!!

Raise the water level in the pump portion. The water level should be even with the top of the bubble trap. This way they water can’t cascade

+1 on this, super easy to fix and with the addition of an ATO with a sensor in your pump compartment you will never hear that cascading sound again :)

Yea that's kinda what I was thinking too. Right now I am waiting to get an ato reservoir built so i am using the stock float ato system and its below that weir for the bubble trap..

Do you own a rsr250 because I was also wondering if I filled the sump that high and killed the power if the sump would over flow with the extra water in there..
