Anybody else with a peninsula that can give me some ideas on a clean overflow? I'd really like to be able to use the shadow box but can't seem to figure out a way to incorporate my 3/4 return as well as a maxspec gyre all on the one 22" wall

Im looking at how close these old bulkheads are drilled and really contemplating giving it a try... outside haha but then it also came to me, what if I mounted my returns under the overflow? Well that doesn't work cause my gyre wont fit between the two bulkheads... but if I move the overflow to the side, drill two returns under the overflow and mount the gyre verticle on the right side... hmmmm

I wouldn't, then your trusting a check valve to stop a flood in case of a power outage. If your not home, even a 99% closed checkvalve will let the tank drain down to the returns given enough time. That's a lot water on the floor

Honestly I'd be worried about putting bulkheads into the drilled holes on the bottom. That aryclic piece you remove and the reefer pipes, seems the way they designed it was the pipes cracked before you could put that torque on the glass. I'm no engineer but seems that's how they were able to get away with them being so close. With bulkheads, now your relying on the glass to hold if you bump the pipes.

I've figure it out, modular marine overflow! Shadow box doesn't come smaller than 16" I found a 1200GPH 11.75" overflow with the same properties i like about the shadow box, i can have them custom drill the overflow box to my needs and it gives me plenty of room for 2 3/4 return bulkheads.already Now to remove the tank and prep for drilling. And decide on using my gyre under the overflow or 2 mp40s on either side

So I ordered my Modular Marine overflow on the 5th of July. I got a confirmation relatively quickly however no shipping information was updated. After TWO WEEKS I finally emailed them. They informed me that the acrylic used for the overflow was on back order but they just got a shipment in and I should see my overflow within the week.

TWO MORE WEEKS go by and still nothing.. The tracking info updated but when selected didn't show any information at all. I was starting to get very discouraged. I emailed again this morning and haven't gotten a response however when I went home on my lunch I was surprised by a package at my door. It was finally here. After a month of waiting i can finally proceed with my build. The overflow it self i love. It's sleek and will look great. One step closer!

I couldn't wait when I got home from work yesterday, had a friend help me move the aquarium outside and started drilling away. This was my first time ever drilling an aquarium and I definitely learned a lot. I couldn't help but stop every few minutes to see how far it had gone down. I DID make one mistake though. The tape that I applied to the underside of the glass got wet and had no strength left in it, so when the first cut went through the glass fell to the bottom of the aquarium and left me with a very small chip ;Rage It could've been worse! It is pretty tight, I haven't decided if i want to drill it for returns on either side or just have them go over the top, still in the trial/error process lol
