It feels like only yesterday I was writing a build thread here about my Evo 13.5. Turns out it was 2 months ago. That's when I started reefing. Well (expensive) things happen quickly in this hobby and I've just purchased a second hand Red Sea Reefer 170. It should arrive in a week or so. I knew I'd upgrade to a bigger tank, I just assumed it would be in years not months. I'm really excited about the things this tank can do and the stocking options it opens compared to the 13.5 gallon Evo.
The aquarium comes with Hydra26hd lights and an acrylic lid. No skimmer/pump etc. So I'd like some ideas for these. At the moment, I'm leaning towards a Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer (I've read good things about them from the people using them on a rsr170 and they seem reasonably priced) and possibly an Eheim compact 2100 (ease of getting one in Japan and from reviews it seems quiet) for a pump. I'm also going to install a refugium into the sump. I saw another member on this forum Bootie08 added a piece of acrylic to separate the skimmer from the refugium in the sump. I'm thinking of something similar, so please keep size in mind when suggesting a skimmer.
The pump I'd like to get sooner rather than later so I can start cycling after I put the tank together. The skimmer I'll just add it to the sump during the cycling process when I get it.
I look forward to people's thoughts and ideas for what they have done with their tank or what they'd recommend.
Now to say goodbye to my 80L freshwater to make way for the new tank.

Display and sump arrived today. Cabinet arrives on Jan 4. So far for the tank I have (or have ordered) the following. If I'm missing anything, please let me know.

Caribsea Life rock 40 pounds
Caribsea Fuji pink sand 20 pounds
Magus Curve 5 skimmer
Eheim 2100 compact return pump
Hydra 26hd LED and mounting arm
acrylic lid
light for inside the cabinet
powerboard
media cup (instead of the mesh bags)
filter floss and a few bags of carbon for the media cup
starter bacteria
eheim jager 125 watt heater (also adding a 50 watt as back up)
Algaebarn refugium starter pack
light for the refugium
inkbird temperature controller
random flow nozzle
epoxy for the rockwork

I still need a cabinet to go next to the tank to house the electronics and a wavemaker. I feel like I have most things covered but being new to this I may have missed something.
Happy New Year's Reefers!

Disappointment, frustration and a tinge of anger. I finally got around to opening to box that had the display tank in it to set it up. When it was sent, they packaged the plumbing and the mounting arm for the light into the display tank (pics provided). I put it on top of the cabinet yesterday and started to give it a wipe down before my planned leak test. As I was wiping it down, I noticed hundreds of scratches on the glass (pics provided of some of the bigger ones). Obviously occurred during shipping. But the thing that is going to stop me doing anything now is the chip/crack on the bottom right hand side of the display tank. I contacted the guy I bought it from and he is going to contact the shipping company for me on Tuesday (Monday is a public holiday in Japan). Wish me luck.
