It feels like only yesterday I was writing a build thread here about my Evo 13.5. Turns out it was 2 months ago. That's when I started reefing. Well (expensive) things happen quickly in this hobby and I've just purchased a second hand Red Sea Reefer 170. It should arrive in a week or so. I knew I'd upgrade to a bigger tank, I just assumed it would be in years not months. I'm really excited about the things this tank can do and the stocking options it opens compared to the 13.5 gallon Evo.
The aquarium comes with Hydra26hd lights and an acrylic lid. No skimmer/pump etc. So I'd like some ideas for these. At the moment, I'm leaning towards a Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer (I've read good things about them from the people using them on a rsr170 and they seem reasonably priced) and possibly an Eheim compact 2100 (ease of getting one in Japan and from reviews it seems quiet) for a pump. I'm also going to install a refugium into the sump. I saw another member on this forum Bootie08 added a piece of acrylic to separate the skimmer from the refugium in the sump. I'm thinking of something similar, so please keep size in mind when suggesting a skimmer.
The pump I'd like to get sooner rather than later so I can start cycling after I put the tank together. The skimmer I'll just add it to the sump during the cycling process when I get it.
I look forward to people's thoughts and ideas for what they have done with their tank or what they'd recommend.
Now to say goodbye to my 80L freshwater to make way for the new tank.
