Hey there,

so my return pump arrived today (RE Red Dragon X 85) and I had to realize, that the adapters are to big for the stock pipe (3/4").
Now I thought, why not replace the whole pipe in the sump with a silicon tube. All I would need is a adapter with the right sleeve to fit to the stock thread.
Weirdly is that the one adapter from the return pump is the right size for the tubing, but the screw socket is to big for the Red Sea mount. Are they using special designs?
I mean I could use the one used for the original pipe, but I cant detach it without destroying the pipe :(

Has anyone done that? I think it would better for the flow, because the stock one is pretty edgy and with thin tubing.
Or speaks something against it?

Thanks and have a nice weekend

My RSR came with tubing and a hose barb that screws on to the fitting you have circled in your picture. I like soft tubing over pipe for returns for all the reasons you cited. I've been doing it that way since 1988, no problems yet :)

You know what Kind of fitting is the pipe from Red sea?
I have a 1 1/2" screw but its slighty to big
The next smaller one i found is 1 1/4" but it think thats too small

I don't unfortunately. I do know that whatever piping they use doesn't play nice with our fittings here in the U.S. Maybe post this in the Red Sea forum, you might get your answer.

I see you are in Germany. OBI probably has what you need.

I do and i have 3 diffrent Hardware stores around me and no one has something like this. Or Im searching wrong.

But I did found it in the Internet.
I think it is indeed a fitting with a 1 1/4 Union nut and 32 mm Hose barb. Ordered one and will See soon

Just leave my findings here in case anyone stumbles upon this thread.

Indeed Red sea uses its own system for threads, so its not possible to find Union nuts that will fit on the Red sea threads.
So I managed to free the union nut of the existing RS pipe (Alternative would be to order a replacement Part Set for 30 bucks to get this one - _-) and combined it with a royal exclusiv hose barb with a thicker sealing ring.

Not pretty, but fits perfectly and allows you to attach tubes directly to the RS pipes
