Hi guys,

Scaped my new reef yesterday, I used a mix of Caribsea dry reef rock and Live rock.

I also used styrofoam that was made for a reptile terrarium underneath the rocks. I did this because I definitely want to have some sand (mostly for aesthetics) on the bottom but I DON’T want detritus to build up under my rock work. The styrofoam gives a smooth surface that allows the water flow to blow out any detritus but still look natural.

I did carve the styrofoam to shapes I like and as an added bonus it holds onto the rock nicely. It was quite difficult to push it down and place the first few rocks on to hold it down but once don’t it is very stable.

I predict that after a few months the rocks and styrofoam will all look the same. Just need to put a 9kg/20lb bag of Caribsea Aragalive in once it arrives and my scape and sand is complete.
