Rubber coupler safe?

Hello everyone

I’m thinking about cutting a coupler into my basement sump room to decrease some of the vibration noise I am having from my external pump. Any thoughts on if this is safe for the fish and coral?

While your better off with vinyl some rubber is drinking water safe

And of course I just jinxed myself by saying that. Came home tonight to water on the floor. The problem isn't the rubber. The problem is the hose clamps. After three years one of them rusted through and popped off allowing a spray of water to shoot out. Get rid of the metal hose clamps and use a couple of zip ties on each side with the ends mounted on opposite sides of the pipe.

Yeah, I had thought of that but could never find any 2" plastic clamps that were designed to clamp tightly. The only 2" clamps I found were only for holding pipes in place. Do you happen to know of any place that makes/sells them?

I could only find worm driven plastic hose clamps for what your describing youd need. They might not get tight enough. :/. I didnt know u needed 2"! Lol. Biggest pipe i ever dealt with was 1 1/2".
I saw some rubber ones but didnt see if they were big enough. It was basically rubber thick hose with your metal hose clamps on each end.

A zip tie tensioning tool is a nice, cheap way to get zip ties nice and tight.

You can get titanium clamps

Silicone hose, ultraflec or superflex PVC work well. Not spa flex.

"A zip tie tensioning tool is a nice..." Just ordered but don't know if I'll be able to use it in place due to space restrictions.
"You can get titanium clamps" Very true and a good idea! But with 6 couplers I would need 12 clamps. At around $7.00 a pop, it's just a lot cheaper to use a couple of heavy duty zip ties on each end (rotated 180 degrees from each other). I've used this method a few times before which has worked out fine. (Of course now that I have typed that I have probably jinxed myself again, ;Facepalm, in which case you win.)
I actually lucked out when this happened. Looking back on my sump cam I found that the hose clamp popped off right when we walked back into the house so I didn't lose much water. But of course what did spray out just happened to arch up and over for a direct shot at the power bar extension cord I'm temporarily using due to a burnt out EB832. Aaaarrgh. Okay life, what have you got in store for me today?
