I'm am considering using a 100-150 gallon Rubbermade stock tank for a sump. It will go in a dedicated filter room for my 300 gallon tank.

I'm looking for setup ideas. Does anyone have any drawings or pictures?

Are there any major drawbacks vs a traditional sump?

The only draw back from what I've seen is it would be hard to build any compartments. They are all vinyl. Plexiglass or glass square allow for baffles and other usual modifications.

What I did for my basement sump is to use 3 smaller tank connected by PVC. Similar to having 1 big sump with 2 baffles.

For those that have used a large Rubbermaid, what was your work around for baffles? How did you reduce micro bubbles? How did you incorporate a refugium?

Bump... I'd be interested to hear too

Baffles are not necessary, you can build an eggcrate cage for a refugium, If the refuge is for nutrient export, an algae scrubber is an easy mod as well. An eggcrate basket for a bubble sponge if necessary, or strategically placed skimmer where the bubble dissipate by breaking up with rocks or refuge. I don't have one but my friend that owns an lfs has a few of different configurations around his store.

Interesting thought. That would likely work well having the bubbles removed by separating the return pump from the remains items by rock work.

I was thinking of building a small baffle setup too..
