Looking to purchase either the RB Brute or RB Roughneck containers for R/O storage. They both are made of LDPE but one is certified NSF. Just wondering if there is a difference or they just didn't bother going through the NSF process for the Roughneck. I am aware of other differences but just concerned with the NSF certification.

Thanks

Kevin

Go with the Brute. Both are just fine as far as safety. I originally used a Roughneck and the issue was the sides would bow out from the water. The Brute will show no deflection when filled right to the top. And the second reason, Randy uses Brutes as well (and so do I along with thousands of others.) Don't quote me, but the gray and white and one other color of Brute are Food Grade.

Gotta go with the wheels. I have hardwood floors and now I can get the Brutes right up next to the tank.

FWIW, I've had two Roughnecks in use for 5 + years, one for fw and the other for sw. No problems so far.

I just wasn't comfortable with the sides bulging out.....and that's with heavy stuff on the sides to hold it in.

Houston, we have a miscommunication here. I was referring to the round Roughneck garbage cans and not the totes. The cans hold their shape quite well. The totes, not so much.

Thanks @Rybren, I learned something tonight. I always thought Rubbermaid's garbage cans were all called Brutes, and their totes/storage bins were Roughnecks. I now see that Rubbermaid has used Roughneck on a number of their products. We're all good then. Don't use a tote....use a round garbage can, regardless of what it's called!

i just recently got three sets of wheels for my brutes from a website webstaurant.com for like 16 dollars each plus shipping, rubber maid ones sell for some ridiculous like 39 each everywhere i was looking

Wow! I'm impressed. I was expecting to find some flimsy 3 or 4 wheeled dollies.....but these look exactly like the Brute dollies with five wheels. I don't need any because I've been the sucker who has already purchased two Brute dollies for too much, but these seem like a fantastic deal. HERE's the one I found on that site for less than $16 each. Good find!!!

yeah there good qaulity granted they are new so who knows, but they are good and i'm impressed with them, if you order from them you have to agree to there terms because i guess they can sell equipment that isn't like UL approved and only allowed to sell because most restaruant equipment is covered by fire extinguisher equipment i guess

I have used the same Rubbermaid Roughneck 32 gallon can on wheels for over 20 years now and it has been great. Not as heavy duty as the Brute but has served me well.
I have a good friend who owned a plastics manufacturing facility and did contract work for many vendors such as Rubbermaid, Sterilite, Tupperware, Heil and many others. What was surprising was many of the things we use all were made out of the same plastic beads and compounds. The difference is Rubbermaid spent many thousands of $$ and years of time to have the Brutes tested and certified by the ANSI/NSF as food safe since it is commonly used in restaurants and food manufacturing facilities while they didn't for the Roughneck line since they are more homeowner oriented at lower cost. Same materials just one carries the label the other doesn't but is still fine for our uses. Why would the yinvest all that money for something it was never intended for and have to pass the cost on to the homeowner thats going to place his trash or yard clippings in it?
