First I would like to wish everyone merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours. May the terrible virus ruining so many holidays and daily life soon become a thing of the past. Now My thoughts on sumps . Hopefully this might help someone somewhere who is contemplating a sump purchase.I have been in this hobby/Passion since 1984 having had great successes and a few failures. Learned a great deal from reading and on my own so what I am about to say might not please everyone but I hope to HELP in what I have learned. THIS IS an expensive hobby that from the equipment to the eye popping fish and corals addicts the true Hobbyist. In the lasyt year I had two sump Failures on TWO NAME brand sumps major leaks in my home. Both a Tideline and Bashsea sump FAILED and caused water damage to my home. The cleanup was also NOT Fun. The vendors Premium aquatic was great and refunded my money , Great people and I regularly get my needs from them. The other vendor was NOT SO HELPFUL.. Which is why I have gone to rubbermaid sumps. Yes I now choose a sump which while not as pretty and tricked out Will not rupture and leak, So fellow aquarists Just my two cents and using a 25 dollar sump from the nearest Lowes or Home depot rather than a 500 to 600 dollar sump that might down the road cause you grief. That money could be better spent elsewhere and u will not have Baffle issues to fit equipment and change of skimmers etc if you so choose. Just a thought, Merry Christmas.

Rubbermaid is used by many as long as you have space and proper plumbing to utilize it
I know many with large Rubbermaid bins that Also have frag racks set up within

I had two plastic tubs in unison as a sump that worked great for a while. Eventually I experienced mystery decline in the tank, with lots of unexplained STN. I describe it as a slow crash. Lost most of my euphyllia and acans as well as a bunch of other stuff. ICP testing revealed extremely elevated tin. After ruling everything else out it was determined that the plastic tubs were leaching the tin. I ended up switching to a 75 gallon glass aquarium as my sump and I corrected the tin issue. I’m not claiming all plastic tubs will cause this problem but it’s definitely a concern I have. The other thing was that it took a long time before it became an issue, so it sneaks up on you.
