So I recently bought a juvenile Ruby Red Dragonet for my 40 breeder reef and ran into an odd problem. One night I woke up at 2am and decided to check out the tank at night. Only to find the my RRD was swimming in small circles at the top of the tank. I saw her get sucked against the teeth of my overflow I expected it to swim off once it felt the overflow but it didn’t, so I put my finger next to it and it swam off unharmed. Maybe a month later I find it dead in my overflow. I had gotten it to eat off of a brine shrimp feeder so I was feeling pretty bummed but I went to the LFS and bought another one and in a day and a half it was dead in the same way.
I’m feeling frustrated and would like to know if this is a common issue and if there are ways to prevent it.
It is worth mentioning that I plan to put a screen behind the teeth of my overflow to prevent them going in though that may not help the death thing as they are a fragile fish. Also they were both maybe an inch long and looked like females but it may have been to soon to tell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'm sorry to hear you lost both your dragonettes. I've had mine for a short time, about two months, and have not observed that type of behavior at all. I've never seen him free-swimming; he's always on the bottom or on the rockwork.
