Ruby Reef Hydroplex

I'm trying Hydroplex in my QT for 7 days Add 2 oz. (60 ml) of HYDROPLEX per 5 gal. (20 liters) of water. Dosage may be repeated 24 hours and every 48 hours for up to 7 days. Can you add garlic power, vitamarin-M, focus and metroplex, kanaplex to the food?

Capric Triglyceride is coconut oil

Imidazolidinyl urea is preservative

polyvinal pyrolidone is pvp which is just a transport material for medications

Both potassium compounds are preservatives

Methylparben is an anti-fungal agent

octyldodecanol is a solvent, can be used for acme treatment

i dont see how any of this treats anything tbh.

Just bought some new fish i was trying their 7day QT process. The meds are for back up if i need them. I have done 10 min dip on the fish before it go in to my QT.

The run down on the ingredients list and their purposes is great.

The OP doesn't mention treating for anything, seems more like he is trying to use it as a prophylactic as it doesn't hurt anything.

To answer your questions about feeding medicated foods, I talked to Ruby Reef at RAP a couple of years ago about it and they said they hadn't observed or been reported any issues of feeding medicated foods in conjunction with the use of Hydroplex.

That being said, I wouldn't not combine it with other medications that are suspended in the water (ie Copper, Paraguard, etc).

I don't like just adding copper just because I got new fish. I would love and see if HYDROPLEX works effectively. Even with keeping the fish in QT for 30-45 days minimum with no sign of illness.

I was looking for the ingredient list online but couldn't find it, besides this comment.

I found a small amount of info regarding Imidazolidinyl urea. It is apparently a formaldehyde releaser used in cosmetics.

"Imidazolidinyl urea is soluble only in polar solvents. In aqueous solution, it is decomposed to release formaldehyde. The formaldehyde release from imidazolidinyl urea in an aqueous solution increases with the increase in pH and temperature of the solution as well as with the increase in storage period (2). One molecule of imidazolidinyl urea can release 4 molecules of formaldehyde under rigorous conditions. The total free formaldehyde content in a product containing 0.6% imidazolidinyl urea will thus correspond to 0.186%."

So it seems like they are trying to use this in place of formalin. The problem is, in my opinion, we don't know the amount of this active ingredient that they place in the formulation, and we don't know how much actually gets converted to formaldehyde since the conversion is ph and temperature dependent.

That being said, it does seem possible the product could help reduce external parasites, but the effectiveness would be unknown.

Just my thoughts.

The idea that this would be reef safe while still treating exo parasites, the idea of this having a concentration that at the same time is high enough to kill say Cryptocaryon but leave corals intact seems unlikely to me. I also wonder on the long term effects of such exposure on a fish; with formaldehyde being carcinogenic. Say was effective, did you just kill a parasite to kill the fish 5 years later from cancer?

This one actually says it's not reef safe, unlike ruby reef rally. But yes I agree with you. I think formaldehyde should be used as more of a last resort in severe infections.
