Does anyone know what the legality of having aquariums in a temperature controlled storage facility? I have been thinking about starting a fish based business and either will start small and keep it in my house or go bigger, the problem is space. Thought those indoor storage facilities would be a good option just doesn't seem like it would be allowed.

You would have to talk to the place. Even the ones that are temp controlled normally do not have power in the storage space. Plus they control the temp. I think there are alot in florida just because of summer. I think in the winter they do not run the heater or run it very low. Even in the summer I think they still keep the space like 80 degrees.

Yeah i agree most dont have power sources since it is mainly a storage facility. Your best bet would be to try to find a temp controlled warehouse instead of a storage facilty but the cost would probably be greater. Then again it never hurts to call and ask.

Bryan look around. There are a couple places that will let you do it. They are not storage places. Like there is a place by me that is $20-$300 a month that is actually a store front if you want it. Do you remember where Seven Sea was when they moved the last time. They had storage in the back but the front was businesses. You just keep the doors locked and no one can come in.

There was a guy in my area that setup a walk-in store in a storage facility. The owners let him use a electrician to run extra power with a separate meter to his spot and all was well for quite a while. He did have to run a exhaust fan 24/7 and heat which made for large power bills.
He was able to bring in some amazing corals but he didn't have much money for advertising which killed the business.

Lots of people are doing this out in LA...jobbers. They go to the wholesalers, find the best stuff, and then sell it to LFS's that pay them to get the best stuff. I know one personally out in LA who also does wholesale dry goods, and used to have a huge coral prop facility in a storage place like that.

seems like more hassle than it's worth honestly..... i would set up the garage personally...;)

If it was your own garage/home, you would have more control over what you would be able to alter.

One of the best, (IMO), LFS in my area, started from one of the owners garage
