I know this type of light is posted about a lot on this forum, but I was wondering if running two 18' current marine orbit leds over a 24' deep biocube would be sufficient. I have softies, lps, and one monti sps up high in the tank.

How are those corals doing under the current light? How long have they been under the current light ?

Three or even four units is probably what you will need to get up to "normal" levels. But two should be a decent improvement.

I would get a [HASHTAG]#lux[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#meter[/HASHTAG] and measure your current lights from the water's surface and tell us what you get.

There are free lux meter apps for your smart phone's camera that you can download and use immediately, but I would order a $15 lux meter from Amazon eBay etc. for the long term.

Let us know what you get!

I tested mine with a download lux meter right under the light was 10000 which was top out on the app I used my 4 bulb 480 watt 6ft vho s had about 6000 lux right under

Why not get the current pro unless you already have 2 of the other one but if it was me if prolly go with the China black boxes instead of any of those options

And yea actuall those two will grow ok higher in the tank like that.
I'm guessing it's right on top?
Yea your good to go. They don't penetratit well. So there's not much par near the bottom. Seems to be the only complaint.

This is one over a shallow tank.

There are better choices to buy in the price range but if it's what you have it'll work.
Is it the pro? If they are the pro it's even better and your fine to grow med light corals.

Do you think the two marine orbits will work, or should I upgrade. I already have the two over my tank (regular, not pro) and everything seems fine. I guess I probably should just save up for something better, there are just so many options and I don't want to hang any lights from the ceiling/ a shelf

Also, how shallow? I believe mine is pretty shallow. 24'

If it's working. Don't sweat it. It's a perfect time to do some research.

I do start with how I want the whole tank to look. I hate the light way high over the tank shining on me on my couch. And I don't want it to look like a workshop either.
Those are on option depending on where the tank is. Some have mounts for the back of the tank like a goose neck lamp some have legs that hold it 6 in over the tank.
I have a low canopy on one tank and a curtain on my cube as the light is higher.

So on the upgrade choose your style then budget and look for a good lamp for the corals you'll want from there.

Check that link up there. You'll be stoked on what hes doing. That tank is 16 18 in I believe. With one current pro.

So
Two current pro would be plenty in that tank and you can wait to find one used and then another.
An option

Also like they were saying above a little research in what kind and how much light for what and you'll be sooo much happier as you'll get cooler corals knowing you got enough of the right light

One style. Kessel.
Ai prime.
Another. Sbreeflights
Maxspect nano
Reef breeders.

There are some cheaper Wi-Fi leds on Amazon don't recall the name right off just look through all options before pulling the trigger I bought 3 or 4 lights for my 65gal before finding the "right" light so now I have a handful of unused subpar equipment I wish I wouldn't have bought it pays to never buy on impulse lol

Agreed, and it never pays off to be cheap in this hobby. I recently bought the extra light thinking it would be cheaper than investing $400+. But now I need to invest in even more money and hopefully get at least half of what I spend on the crap lights [emoji22][emoji389]

Good news- I got an extra job at the local saltwater store, so in about 2 weeks I can use that money and not feel guilty for buying something nicer. [emoji4]

Congrats hopefully get an employee discount and first dibbs on the good stuff :-) might even be able to use a return policy to recoup the lights you already got

I used the 18-24" Pro version over a standard 20g high with much success. Grew softies, LPS, and SPS. I see people diss the current lights a lot, but they worked well for me as far as growth and all my corals were very happy. Hope this helps.

Love the octospawn [emoji2] is the pro full spectrum? Adding another of the led's really improved the corals, but they aren't as happy as they were with my cheap Chinese led that no longer fits over the new tank. [emoji22] I just don't want to spend ALL of my money again, it's hard. I want my underwater children to be as healthy as possible
