I know many have tried and some have had success while others have not. And success has been within a range as well. Figured it would be helpful to get actual numbers visible.

If you have tried and were unsuccessful do you know why? Ie unsuccessful because you had to run 20 ft of tubing?

I tried this method early into my tanks startup days. The reason this method was unsuccessful for my tank was because I was not battling CO2 problems in my room. The reason for running a line outside is to get more O2 and less CO2 pumped into the water. However, my tank sat next to a window that was constantly open. This was enough to keep the CO2 levels in my room very low. Therefore, running a line outside made no noticeable difference in my tank.

If you are going to run it 20 feet or more use 1/2 inch PVC pipe.
