If you are worried about bio diversity, then there is more to it than just bacteria. Perhaps a 20lb box of real ocean live rock? Most of the bacteria that we need for the N cycle is fine.

While most microfauna can live for a long time, if you ever used any meds, tried hypo, algaecides, organic carbon or any other media or chemicals, then they can die off.

What do you think is in that ocean water or rock that makes it work???? It’s bacteria.

If you are not seeing a super-diverse pod population, mini brittle stars and all of that, then you might need a refresh. Just using Flatworm Exit or coral-safe stuff can harm some of these. You can get both Pacific and Atlantic that can restock most of this... each have their plusses and minuses.

Right but is it possible that my bacteria is so damaged or even gone from keeping less then ideal conditions for them for years ?

They give you your numbers compared to “typical tanks” aka compared to everyone else.
there’s not really a “set point” so to speak since every biome is a little different, but you can def see if things are way out of balance.
mad for solutions or resolutions, that’s not so simple, and don’t have any answers yet.

You can also get microfauna packs from IPSF.com. Your nitrate and phosphate will need to be more near to sea water level for most of these to thrive and reproduce in perpetuity.

I’ve got huge pod population but the large 1/8 inch one not the small ones all over glass. And rocks and filter socks full of micro Bristel stars and lots of sponge all over. Have not used any medications In over 5 years but have had many times auto top off malfunction and bring tank from 1.026 to 1.018 and top off not work for few days and go up to 1.028 along with many tank crashes with multiple 20-30% water changes for multiple days in a row many times

If you have all of that, then you are not suffering from a lack of diversity and microfauna. You can skip the bacteria in a bottle. Well done.

BTW - I forgot about the sponge, but another great sign of a thriving tank.

Lol thriving tank yet all I do is kill corals. Well that’s for another thread tho
