Running carbon in my reactor IS A problme??

There's not a lot of need to IMO. Fresh carbon works fast for its usual intended purpose, declining sharply in effectiveness. Carbon usage instructions often account for this, suggesting smaller usage quantities and shorter cycle times.

Some people have actually attributed negative side effects to leaving carbon in, but I don't think it's very common.

Carbon has been proven to remove toxins, medicines, metals etc. it is used not only in aquariums but to filter drinking water. Ie ro carbon filters. Very few negatives have been found. It can also clarify or remove yellow from water. It's cheap also. The only negatives in a reactor would be to much flow causing the particles to grind and then having it flow into your system. Also if it's not changed for months it can become a detritus trap. My opinion is everyone should use it. Oh forgot to mention its a great place for denitrifying bacteria to grow.
