Running it back again!

Hello reefers!

New to the forum here. Been in the hobby (fresh/fowlr) for many years long ago, and gave it up when life happened. Now that the kiddos are a bit grown, starting up the hobby again to introduce the little ones to it. Didn't realize how much tech and practices have changed.

Can't wait to get things going again. I'm setting up a Lifegard 3.8 pico reef. I know small tanks are harder to keep stable, but I think that as long as I'm diligent about the maintenance, it should actually be fairly easy. Hoping to get a build thread going in the next couple of weeks.

BTW - if anyone can 3D print a media basket and/or lid for the Lifegard 3.8, please PM me.

Thanks!

Welcome! looking forward to seeing your reef!
Can't wait to get it going either, but if I've learned one thing - patience is key. Got the tank and major hardware on hand... just getting a few more tid bits and I should be setting up soon.

yes, much has changed.
doesn't mean you can't still go old school.
welcome to the show.
Like many of us, I've fallen into the trap of buying unnecessary hardware. Gonna keep it as simple as possible this time.

Welcome to Reef2Reef, what are your plans for what you plan to put in it?
Undecided on the theme. Having snorkeled in the shallows in Hawaii, I really like the tide pool look of white sand, unique looking rock, and macro algae. I might put a few nano pieces of Real Reef Rock and fill out the softscape with macroalgae. On the other hand, I might pick out a couple of encrusting corals (meteor shower cyphastrea / John Deere psammocora) and Indo Gold Torch for motion. The kiddos want a clown and a mandarine. I may have to swap out Nemo for a smaller version once he gets bigger. I might throw in a sexy shrimp as well. I also want a clam, but that might be too much bioload.
