I have not tried this but I would guess that if you run a low flow that it would work at catching some debris. Although I would think using a 10x4" rather than a 10x2" would work better and give you better flow options. Most reefers that are not using roller mats place a filter floss media somewhere at the entrance of their sump in order to catch sediment.

I have a 1 1/4" coming out my pump to a 1 1/4" tee, reducer to 1" going to my return line and a reducer to 3/4" hard plumbed into a dual reactor I pieced together. Was thinking of running carbon in the first chamber and alternating a sediment filter for water clarity or GFO when needed in the other. Seems like a better option then a fleece roller or running filter floss in the socks for water clarity. Could just buy a 30 pack of sediment filters at whatever micron size is best suited and swap them out quickly as needed.
