Hi all.

My nitrate is running at zero and I have a really bad Cyano problem.

I need to be careful how I go about addressing the issue but how do you raise nitrate using the triton method?

I dont run Triton but I dose both NeoPhos and NeiNitro to my ATO water. Works great and keeps levels detectable. If I notice one of the levels getting to high or to low I just adjust my dosing to my ATO the next time I fill it up. I tried feeding heavier but seemed to just bring on diatoms on the sand and rock.

you could consider dialing back your fuge light and hour or so every other night until you start getting a reading on N

I had tried lowering photo period of my algae scrubber but ph dropped. Thats why I am personally a fan of dosing nitrates and phosphates.

Buy some stump remover at a hardware store. It should say potassium nitrate on the back. Or you can buy it online in higher purity. Dosing this will raise no3 and potassium very slightly.

You could always just dose it...

Which triton reagent do you dose nitrogen with?

I’ve got the P Beta for phosphate.

You could just use any brand, I like Brightwell because the nitrogen is the easiest to measure and add to small quantities of water such as those in water changes.

I was having trouble dosing nitrogen on my Triton tank. It really can cause cyano fast even without seeing any nitrate measure, so it’s hard to dose.

I ended up getting an N-Doc test and it gave dosing for NH Alpha. I started dosing that and pretty quickly noticed better color on my acros and no real cyano (they recommend switching to NO Beta if you see cyano with the NH)

I’m sure other products work, but the Triton dosing instructions makes it easier and less guess work.
