Do you have two sets of tools? One for tank projects that get a lot of rust? And a second group of tools NOT to be used for tank stuff?

.....Or. Do you just have one set of rusty tools?

I have a lot of hand tools and work with them for a living. If I start buying Knipex tools for reefing, I'll truly go broke. I use one set for all.

Rust (and glass, chrome, etc) can be cleaned in a vinegar bath. Use with caution in your own situation.

I use stainless steel tools, then rinse them with RODI and dry them off as best as I can. Once there's more than a little bit of rust at the pivot point, I'll toss them get new ones.
The only metal tool that I ever really put in the tank is a hemostat for pulling out algae and grabbing things when I don't feel like sticking my *entire* arm into the tank.
A new hemostat from Amazon or Harbor Freight from time to time is about the most inexpsnive thing about the hobby.
