Rusty angel with hole in belly

My rusty angel has been fine for 2 weeks until the last 4 days she started to develops this kind of erosion in the belly. She’s been eating fine up until today. I’ve searched online and i can’t seem to find an article that describes this specifically. Anyone ever seen something like this?

That looks like either aggression (especially if it showed up suddenly) or infection.

You may want to set up a QT, and see if it responds to the combination of Furan-2, Metroplex and Kanaplex.

yup. she died yesterday. looked exactly like that must have been the same thing. so its some kind of parasite??

I had a snowflake eel once that developed a red area that one day turned into a whole and saw a large parasite jump out, and was eaten by my triggers. Hopefully another fish didnt swallow it whole if it was a parasite.

Sorry to hear that. I honestly have no clue. After the Potter's belly became big I first started mixing some skinned peas into the food based on advice about potential constipation. Then when it started looking like a sore I started treating with Metro and Kanaplex (and ordered Furan-2 but it didn't arrive in time). There were 2 other fish in QT at the same time so I continued treating them through the suggested interval even after the Potters passed and both have since graduated to the display and have seemed healthy and thriving since with no signs of anything. Never saw any signs of aggression, neither of the other fish in QT were aggressive, and not sure what else it may have injured itself on as the QT was a bare bottom, with some PVC pipes, heater, HOB filter, sponge filter, and Ammonia badge.

Crazy that it happened in almost the exact spot, on the potters it was right around it's butt? (never had to think about what that's called on a fish) so I wondered if it was so bound up that part of it's intestine died.

Beauty and they get along great.

If I had to guess I'd say that might be some sort of intestinal perforation, which is going to be about 100 percent fatal unless you could manage to perform emergency surgery on it.

Yeah that’s what i had figured. Something kind of rare since it was hard to find info on it. Just one of those unfortunate things about the hobby sometimes.
