Ryon's mini tank

Well sadly I have had to sell my 60 gallon reef tank. I had that tank over a year and it was just beautiful. I found myself itching for a tank so now I have a small biocube and the build begins!

I bought the tank with everything except for light I am currently fighting very high nitrates and phosphates. As soon as the water is where it should be I'll be adding some coral to make this tank as nice as my last! Any and all constructive criticism is welcomed, I'm also new to R2R so bare with me as I learn to work it lol.

Welcome to R2R! Not trying to jump all over you first thing, but those are awfully large fish for a Biocube. Are they left from your 60g? They might be fine now, but I'd watch out for aggression later.

I completely agree like I said I bought the tank like this only thing I have changed is the light...the gentleman who had tank before took very little care of this tank told me he never did a water change in over a year I'm surprised these fish are still alive, as soon as I can find a shop that will adopt them I'll try and trade them for some coral and smaller fish

Good you're finding them a home! Hopefully the LFS doesn't sell them to another guy with a biocube.

Yea I would hope they wouldn't do that I'm excited to get this tank filled with coral

Some new tank mates..... couple damsels and a purple dotty back now I have appropriate for for this mini tank

Question to anyone watching this build are there any corals the do exceptional in a nano tank and or any corals I should make sure not to get?

Some good easy corals will be softies and polyps... Mushrooms, zenia(invasive if left unchecked), green star polyps(invasive, grow like weeds), zoas... for LPS you could do acans or some euphillia, maybe some trumpets.

It's been a few weeks now and after many many water changes and water tests I still have high nitrates due to the last owners lack of maintenance. With the water changes not making any change I've decided to opt for some mangroves in the back of my all in one too see how they do.

In spite of the water quality my corals are doing great I can see growth in my green star polyp and my yellow zoa's have sprouted there first baby!

I've also introduced a very small watchman goby hopefully to help move the sand around and keep this tank spotless.

Will give updates on how well the mangroves work if anyone is interested

Since my last update I have acquired a new grow light for my mangroves but have yet to see any change. I am still battling high nitrates but my water tests are slowly showing that they are on the decrease.

I can’t figure out why my sand continues to turn red but only underneath I can’t see any red on the top? And I have just noticed algae growing on the front end of my live rock which I really hope doesn’t go crazy.

I am beginning to worry about my red plate coral, I’ve noticed the edges are turning white but I don’t know why when all of my other corals seem to me doing well.
