Sabella's 450L mixed reef build thread

Well my apex failed. THANKFULLY I CAUGHT IT! tank went from 78.5 to 80.6 but I'm prepared for that already. On another note, MY PROGRAMMING! I dose over 2 dkh every day, I spent hours of testing to figure out my needs during diurnal cycles. Other then that just monitoring my tank. 1 flaw in my setup, I don't have an actual temperature controller. My fallback was set to on, my room is a constant 70 degrees. Without a heater, just from the heat giving off from my powerheads keep the tank at 75 degrees. Going to keep my fallback set to off for now on. My apex should only be a failsafe. All my outlets kicked on in the morning. I got an alarm at 80 degrees opposed to my alarm set at 79. Opened a ticket, if I don't get a reply withen the next 3 hours I'm just going to upgrade to the new one.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you were able to catch it! Everything on my tank can and will run without the Apex running except the DOS. That is the only piece of equipment that relies on the apex functioning 100%.

So I got to plugging and unplugging stuff. The apex display screen is what causes the unit interference. As soon as it gets plugged in everything starts blinking. Question is what now. For some reason my apex is not connecting to my router(witch I think it is not an apex problem) I'm freaking out because my display couldve been just giving me false readings this entire time.

What happens if you plug the display into another aquabus port?

Can you download an IP scanner and find the IP of your apex and log into the classic dashboard to confirm the network settings didn't change? Did you have heartbeat setup? If so and it lost network connectivity you should have received a heartbeat alert.

I have the classic. Never setup heartbeat, haven't even updated the firmware as I'm happy with where it's at now. I might just buy the new apex. It's going to cost me 90 bucks for a new display and 80 for a new gaming adapter. So might as well get it over with. Here's what I've cracked opened on the display.

Ouch! What do you think caused this?
I have no idea. I just bought the new apex lololol. Have to go pick it up at 7. But man I had over a 2 degree swing. Hopefully I'm not in trouble. Also have to figure out how I'm going to find my programming I had setup. I've posted it plenty of times on the forum, just have to dig through to find it =/

Here's my other display that fried out not to long after I bought the unit. I didn't have problems with my other apex when this one failed

It's nothing against them, I'm just not paying 90 bucks for that. This other display never even touched a lick of water- Not even probes or the devices hookedup to it. I like the display screen, I don't like having to look at my phone or tablet every time I want to look at my temp or ph. I want to look at my tank and see it at the bottom right corner what my parameters are. My other apex display burnt out in 8 months. This current one it took 3 years.

The new apex doesn't come with a display!

Edit: The newest version apex that is.

Did you buy a full new apex or just the brain ? I’m also thinking of upgrading but was looking st just getting the brain.
Bought the full new apex. Figured I'd just sell my old one for like 4 500. A new display and gaming adapter would cost about 200 bucks anyway so. Ontop of that it has all the cool new features. New probes even though I have 3 temp and 3 on probes sitting around. Has the one link built in that I was meaning to grab anyway

I think I will just use an old iPad or just buy a cheap one and use for a monitor
Yea that's most likely what I'm going to do also. There comming out with an android app also

The rewiring is going to be the death of me.

As of now the getting connected is the death of me lol! It's 1030 at night, been trying to get this guy connected since 8 oclock

Here's a little excitement to get through tuff reef tank times. My altered ego finally got color to it after 2 years. Can take pictures of it now

Well here we go have to figure out how this is happening. With the painstakingly long process of not sleeping at night untill this is fixed. Calcium stayed on an hour past off time.
