thanks for that. I do have plans for the future to expand and plumb a tank in the garage. That project may be sooner then I thoughtI’m sorry to hear that. I lost everything to a hurricane and then again to air conditioning issues (this was before smart phones and aquarium computers). I took 10 years off. Do what you need to do. My advice is take a few days to decide especially if the current system is salvageable. If you do decide to keep the current system, get some additional live rock to re-seed the system.
I think the horse just kicked on my way back on.Sorry about this. You know what they say - if you fall off the horse, get back on.
Oh crap, this really sucks. Real sorry to hear this. I hope you can recover and tread on.Well it happened. I was in the process of moving. moved the tank over to the new house without a hitch. everything setup in the 11th hour. Everything looked good the next morning. I had to go out for a while to tighten up the other house and while I was gone. the heater probe popped out of the tank sending the heater into overdrive. When I returned the tank was up to 97 degrees and everything was gone. fish, corals, and a couple prized friends that have been with me. One being the Ruby Starfish that I've had for 5 years now. The one thing I regret is that the apex wasn't setup yet and I didn't get the notification. Now I have to figure out if I start over or shut it down for awhile to rethink everything through. truly a sad day
Maybe there's some people in your area that can donate to you just to get it up and running. Good luck opAfter some long days thinking. I decided to keep the tank up and running. the total lost to the tank was 6 fish, Large starfish. all snails and crabs. and about 55 different corals. about all of them. I did give it a week and removed all of the skeleton and am back to stability minus dosing as you could imagine. is off now that nothing is in the tank.
Before I start placing orders online I wanted to check in and see if there is anyone with frag packs that are looking to clear some space? I have a pretty big list of corals I want so if you have anything let me know thanks!
Super glue is a good idea. I also now have the apex hooked up, so I can shut it off. I will definitely get it going againThis happened to me as well and I’m so sorry this happened. After it happened to me, I let my tank lay fallow for a few weeks. I was beyond sad. I put a dab of reef-safe super glue on my heater probe so that it never happens again.
Do what you believe is best. Try and salvage the system, let it rest or take a break. No shame on any options.
So sorry for your loss. I just posted about losing my 125 during Superstorm Sandy. I'm just starting again now, 10 years later.Well it happened. Appreciate it! Thank you. I am going to take the opportunity to plumb in a second tank that I had in storage before the move. So know my water volume is going to triple for no additional cost. Minus the lost of the crash of course. Trying to take this as a positive. But don’t know if I will be able to afford some of the corals for awhileSo sorry for your loss. Don't wait. Grieve your loss for a bit and start planning the new habitat.
This is my worst nightmare. I’m so sorry this happened and I hope you can get your tank running again.Well it happened. Over all the move wasn't that bad. I moved the whole house. and then gave myself a couple days to move the tank. Best of luck. So many variables to take in consideration.I’m sorry this happened, but thank you for sharing. I have to have a big move come up soon, so hearing stories helps me to think about what I can do
Thanks,It was a perfect storm. The whole situation happen in the 15 hrs that the Apex was disconnected. After a couple years of running an apex without one issue detected. The Probe pops out right at the worst time. Couldn't make this stuff upIf you have the Apex hooked up, set the heater outlet to automatically shut off when the temp hit's a certain number. It has saved me a few times from run away heaters. Good luck with your tank.
I've had heaters fail and cause me serious issues, now I have double protection. I got a Helio smart heater/controller and I use the apex. I cooked 300 gallons of fish/coral years ago. I almost didn't get back into the hobby. Now almost everything on my new tank is double protected. What state are you in? Maybe we can take up a coral collection to get you going again. Thanks,It was a perfect storm. The whole situation happen in the 15 hrs that the Apex was disconnected. After this weekend I should have everything doubled up. Dual heaters with different controllers. Dual return pumps (plumbing 2 tanks to 1 sump, and a back up just in case. And I really do appreciate the community here. I am in California. I haven’t really thought to hard about restocking at the moment. I did get a pair of clowns and 5 chromis to give the tanks some life and bio load. Hopefully I can start piecing frags back in the system here soon.
