Well today is a sad day for me. I have been seeing my hammers and acans in rough shape and suspected it was my Golden Angel. Caught him red handed picking at my prized Gold hammer a few days ago and with my handy Fish trap i caught him and I put him in the sump. I can handle having to get rid of that angel. It’s a beautiful fish but my corals come first. Well today my favorite Fish of all time my Moorish Idol of 4 years started picking at my hammer as well. I have decided to also get rid of him and just keep my tangs. This sucks he eats anything I drop in the tank and very healthy usually eats a sheet of Nori by himself. He is very well fed so it’s not that he is hungry. I know once he develops and appetite for corals it will get worse. I have several $$$ Gold torches and clams so I can’t risk keeping these two fish. Now i need to find a permanent home for them. So any others that have been forced to pick a favorite Fish or coral???

Sorry to hear that! I know how tough it is to have a healthy and long term success with a Moorish Idol. It sucks that you feel the need to get rid of it after four years. I wonder if anyone has suggestions to attempt to address the behavior first?

Yeah I know what you mean. He gets LRS and Rods soaked daily morning and night. Also gets flakes and large NLS pellets and Nori everyday. All my fish are super healthy. The Moorish Idol and Achilles tang have been my favorite fish so at least I can keep one of them. I’m open for suggestions but not sure it’s worth the risk anymore.
