I woke up to one of my best micro colonies half dead from an acan echinata. They have been sitting about 2 inches apart for the last 2 weeks and finally the dam acan decides to attack. This is by far the worst thing to ever happen in my tank. waaaaaa

No way, that sucks James will they be able to recoup? Or is it total devistation? See that is the weird thing with these corals, I have an acan of which you will have possesion of and it some how keeps getting slide up next to some of my caribbean zoanthids. You would think that either a) the acan would kill the zoanthids or b) the polyps would close right? BUt they don't they just sit there touching each other and nothing is happening to either one. I move the acans back every other day just to find them right there next to my caribbeans again. I think it's fish that is moving them but I would have figured the acans would have killed off the zoanthids by now......

You got any pics? Sorry to hear about that man......

sorry to hear that man! It is weird how corals can sit next to each other for days/weeks/months and get along fine then one day BAM!! and those enchinatas are the worst. I love em but they are deadly. I hope there is enough left to recover.

Sorry about your loss. Acan Echinata has to be one of the most evil corals
around. I lost a bunch of corals from micros to acan lords. Hope yours recover.

Yeah i keep everything out of the way of my acan echinata. But they always end up beside my palys but they don't every attack them. They have been in my tank for over a year so far they have been nice.

Dont worry it will come back to life. If you can give it a Lugols Iodine bath to help clean its flesh. Then in a few days you can start feeding it again. This has happen to me also. I used to have quite a few A. Enchinata but now I am down to one for this reason. They are pretty potent with the stinging power. I had one cause a green polyped toadstool to perish.

Man that sucks James. Echinatas are deadly, they will attack anything near them. As far as the micro, i agree with mbunaman. It will come back, i have had similar experiences. Just feed it daily, will work wonders.

I lost half of my war coral a few months ago to my orange crush acan. They were next to each other for about 6 months with no problems then one day the acan just decided to nuke the war coral. The war coral has already re grown a bunch of new polyps since it got stung.

Sorry to hear about that. I had the same thing happen to me. My orange crush acan destroyed half a mini colony of aspera chalice. To make things MUCH WORSE I was growing my friends aspera out for him. :pale:
