Sad Sun coral

Is it possible for lighting to be to great for a sun coral? I have one in my 29 biocube and i never seem him open. I almost got him out today after the lights went out but he only opened a little when i used a turkey baster to spray zooplex over him. The polyps are open but not extended. :sad:Should i keep spraying him until The tentacles extend? is he never open during the day because of the lighting? Any advice would be lovely!

You will need to try and train it to open during the day if you want to see it. I sold mine but it would open everyday around feeding time. I would spray the food around it during the day at feeding time and it eventually started opening during the day. I think they are normally open when the lights are out as well.

Thats an NPS coral. It doesn't use light for energy, and is a night coral. You should place him in a cave or at least in the shadows.

But there's a difference between "no lighting necessary" and "necessarily no light". Do they need to be in the dark?

It does need to be in medium flow because left over food particles will cause recession. I have trained mine to open at around 6 pm every evening. It will stay open all night also. This is what worked for me....Take a two liter bottle and cut the bottom half off of it. Place the top half of the bottle over the sun coral. This keeps other inhabitants and flow from taking the food away. Using a baster, gently put Mysis in..on top of the coral. It should open up and eat. If it doesn't...do it again the next day...and the next... Yours really doesn't look bad to me, so it shouldn't take long to train it. I hope this helps!
