Anyone have a clue as to why my torch is looking crummy? Was fine a couple weeks ago and now has been looking sad. Had a nitrate spike around 40 and a phosphate jump of .5. Did a water change with some phosguard and everything is back to zero. This is the only coral looking sad.

I have 7 Torches including a neon tip purple tentacle one that looks just like yours. It was doing fine in QT, but once I put it in my display it started looking pretty sad just like yours. I recall when I first got it that it took a week to fully extend, so maybe that particular Torch just doesn't do well with change. I have also moved over an Aussie Gold Torch and a Peach Tip Torch to the same tank from the same QT and they are having no problems. I'm giving it some time and hopefully it will bounce back. I hope yours does as well. :)

Edit: Just wanted to add that your Torch looks like it is too close to your Hammer. Not saying that is the cause, but it will be a problem eventually. Even though Torches are Euphyllia as well, they are way more aggressive than Hammers and FrogSpawn and are not recommended to be as close to each other as Hammers and FrogSpawn can be.

Good to know, I just moved it next to the hammer because I thought it was a "sweet spot" because the hammer is doing great. I will for sure move it further away though.

Also torches do not like a lot of direct flow I have my torches in my sps dominate tank which runs 40ppm of nitrates and 1.00 phosphates lps gets food from nitrates and phosphates you might be starving them.
That depends on the Torch, I have a few Torches that seem to love very high flow, as long as the tentacles are whipping back and forth and not just in one direction. My Aussie Gold would not come out in low or medium flow so I put it directly in higher flow and it loves it. You got to remember that some of these Torches are collected in very turbulent water, some Aussie Torches in particular.

Agreed on keeping higher Nitrates though, I stick right around 20 ppm, but don't doubt that 40 ppm would work as well. Mine did not seem happy until I got my Nitrates up.

Agreed. If as his post mentioned everything is zeroing out that is definitely the culprit as Torches prefer dirtier water (Found this out the hard way).

In my sps system I have about 35,000gph flow in the main display the torches love it. I do not allow them to be blown on directly but tons of polyps fly every which way
