Safe to use Qt tank???

Hi I have a 20g glass tank and aqua clear filter. I used it for treat w cupamine. Seachem. Would ot b usable to start a new small reef system Using this tank and filter. Been out of service for a while. What would best way to clean it up I have cured rock from sump and water from established DT. Just add some sand. Thanks

The concern is the copper, I assume?

I would empty the tank. Then clean it with vinegar and water. Fill with saltwater and use a test kit for copper. If all clear, then add your cured rock and sand.

Copper is toxic to reef aquaria like corals and inverts, so you need to get all the traces of copper out.
I would clean out the tank and filter, and replace the filter media and you should be good to go.

I would rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and discard any soft/porous filter media. Then fill the tank with fresh water and run with carbon for a couple of days. After that, test for copper. If there is no trace of copper you should be good to go!

I personally think you are likely safe assuming you are not reusing any media/rocks/sand/etc. However I have always heard that copper can get into the silicone and leach out..... but I have zero idea if there is any accuracy to this. I would get it all cleaned well then get it up and running for several days and then send in an ICP or use a copper test.

My dt water rocks from sump and sand. Nothing touched copper. Heard about the leach. May fill the tank and test and see what pops. Have a Hanna test kit ty guys.
